I realized I wanted to evoke a "home sweet home" sensation in the players. In order to do that I looked back to review one of my favorites ever: Gone Home. The way this game makes you feel "save" was stunning and using only audiovisual techniques without NPC. So I took their idea of falling rain sound effect in the background and decrease the brightness of the assets to give the environment the mysterious aura that it's characteristic. I also re-organized the furniture to make it credible because the way Deneka had it before seems... odd. In general, I tried to rearrange the assets to make it the room feels more natural and less artificial. That was quite challenging, try to evoke life from cold numbers.

This time I had to create a Fast Attack Unit. That was surprisingly hard because, after the 7th edition (in which the movement of the majority of units was increased), the fast attack fell into a useless void. They weren't that useful as used to be and they have never really been powerful. So I struggled a little bit trying to find a good reference for them. First look for "best fast attack unit" but for some reason, I ended with the Tyranids Shrikers. It is true that I have been trying to stay with the same reference as far as I can. Overall I would say our race is a mod of Tyranids but it is also true that we add lots more shooties and our toughness if usually higher. Other team members also include references from other armies of course.
After the pivot, the old Lore has to be revised. Everyone else was busy on others tasks so I thought it would be a nice opportunity to see how I manage to write a lore. So I reduced the scale of everything down to gain control of the situation. I used The Hurt Locker as the main reference to make a statement about war as a pointless slaughter. The game will be taking place in an alternate reality with our protagonist are trapped. I didn't want to actually explain where exactly they are fighting. Whether it was hell, purgatory or a hallucination the idea was to leave that decision to the players. The only asset I would need to show the settings would be a (maybe animated) comic page screen before the start screen or between loading screens.
